Blonde Era

A little archive of my blonde era before it disappears into the depths of my camera roll.

Many hours in a salon chair every 3 months and burning a huge hole in my wallet as well as my scalp. An unreasonable amount of purple shampoo that could never fully tone my roots/hair, it is time to say goodbye 🥹

But somehow I still miss her sometimes. Here’s to some memories

That said, I would still like to share some addresses

My natural hair is stubbornly black, which meant double bleaching, toning and somehow never quite getting my roots to match the rest of my hair. 😭 A root touch-up in Singapore could easily cost me $400–600 — and yes, I once tried the cheaper route. They broke my hair. Lesson learnt.

Five years of being blonde later, I did eventually find one place that got it right.

But if by some chance you are in Tokyo, I’ve found the best hair dresser to achieve your platinum blond.

Look for Kondo-san. After five years of blonde-hair experiments, he was the one who finally gave me a perfect root touch-up — at almost half what I was paying in Singapore.

If only I lived in Tokyo, I might have stayed blonde a little longer. 🥹
